Domain Name Rip Off – Don’t Get Scammed!

One thing that really ticks me off, is when a company or business preys on you because you may not have the knowledge or time to research what they are trying to sell you, or be aware of the value of the product or service they sell and to work out whether the cost they charge is reasonable, so here is a warning to all business owners not just real estate operators.

I’m going to let you in on a situation that I walked into this morning during one of my office audits, I’m going to hide the names of the real estate business for obvious reasons and I can’t name the company involved, but I’m going to do my best to make sure you don’t get ripped off by these sharks by writing this post.

So here’s what happened, During the course of my audit, I check what domain names the agency has registered, and in the discussion today, the agent handed me correspondence from a domain name registration company in Melbourne advising him that his company name and location domain name was available for sale and that by filling in the attached credit card form he could secure that domain name from them. Now here is the sting, the price was $295 + GST.

The domain name offered for sale is a .com domain name, so I then checked the domain name availability on GoDaddy f95zone .com, and found it was unregistered and still available and the price for that domain name was US$14.

Now, how can you sell something you don’t own, and at $295+GST, that’s not a mark up, that’s a complete rip off godaddy email . My advice to the office this morning was to buy the domain name from GoDaddy at US$14 and tell the company in Melbourne to go jump, and so should you, if you get these sharks trying to rip you off.

If you do get one of these letters, first thing to do is check out the domain name availability, and you can use if it is a .com domain, or if it is a domain and check the price.

You don’t have to be computer savvy to make your own website. I will take you step by step through the process of making a new site.

First go to GoDaddy or any other place to buy domains and put in the name you want for your site right there on the homepage. There will be a box to type in your idea of the name of your site. Many names are already taken so throw in a word that will make your site unique and available. Once you find a site that is available you want to buy it. Don’t fall for all of the up-sales they will throw at you after you click purchase. Just skip them all and proceed to the checkout. If you don’t want people to know that you are the one that owns the site you will want to register it as a private domain.

Buying the domain is cheap, it will only cost about 8 dollars for a year. But you also have to have what is called a hosting account that will host your website. You can do hosting through GoDaddy but there are cheaper hosting plans available. You will be looking at about 8 dollars a month for hosting. You can put multiple sites under one hosting account so it is well worth it to buy multiple domains.

You can create a webpage around free trial offers. Make a webpage where you provide multiple links to CPA offers that provide a free trial to their customers. Now you won’t have the links yet…but set up your webpage so that it has spaces that provide for the links.

So how do you create a webpage around a product you have never seen? Just fake it, but make it look impressive so that the CPA Networks know you are legitimate. You can get a web domain at GoDaddy and host it through whatever host company you want to use.

2) Get an email address that is not a free address (I.E. Gmail, Yahoo, MSN…etc.)

This also supports your legitimacy to the CPA Networks. You need to look professional from your email address. You can do this by using an email service company. I like to use GoDaddy. But really the options are limitless.

3) Call the CPA Networks

Apply to the CPA Networks… there are literally 100’s out there. (NeverBlue, CommissionJunction, Adzoogle, ROIrocket…etc.) Just Google them. Apply online and then most importantly…CALL THEM Immediately after you apply. They Like to know that you are a real person. Let them know your situation and what you would like to accomplish with there CPA network. Now a word of caution…You might get rejected…but just apply to the next one.
